An article from Ars indicates that there is an update that has been released for MC:LA to pretty much make the beginning of the game easier. They did this update because of feed back they received from players. BLEH! I played through the beginning of the game just fine. I will admit, it was difficult. One of the biggest challenges I have had in a long time. But you know what, I loved it! Its not like you have a suped up car from the beginning and the racers are beating you.
You start with a beater, and then you have to make your way up. The challenge gave me motivation to continue to race, to get money, to upgrade and get better cars. Also the fact that you needed to learn how to drive sensibly (more sensibly than NFS I should say) added to the challenge. But after maybe the first 4 or 5 races I was good to go. I had adjusted to the controls and I was on my way to getting better, faster car anyway.
I don’t blame rockstar for this. They delivered on so many levels. This just shows the times of challenging games are coming to an end. So many games are just becoming extended cut scenes it seems. I guess this is the fait of all things that go mainstream.
My friend actually sold me his MC:LA two days after buying it because it was too hard for him. He played it for a good 3 hours and gave up, slacker. It’s not really that hard compared to like… getting all platinums in PGR. I didn’t find it that fun though, I didn’t really feel like I had a reason to win races besides getting more money to buy more cars. The racing itself is fun and challenging, but the game really didn’t reward you for progression.
