Picked up the new Prince of Persia yesterday. First I would like to say the quality of the game is OUTSTANDING. The game is beautiful (love cell shading), the sound is great, the lighting effects are nice, and the character motion is very fluid. Even the menus are pretty cool. Now that the good stuff is out of the way lets get to the not so good stuff…depending on how you look at it.
I wouldn’t really describe the game as “fun” at this point. I would call it entertaining…but not fun. First off, its one of those games that its almost impossible to die. I haven’t died yet, or gotten into a situation where I came close to dying, but I’m pretty sure you can. That’s why I’m sayings its ALMOST impossible to die. Every time you make a bad jump off of a cliff or whatever, the girl saves you (she can apparently fly). There was even a point where a boss was holding her down, I made a bad jump, and some how she still managed to catch me. There are times where you go head to head with a boss in a tapping contest (tapping X or another button), and even when I lost one of those, she saved me again. So since there is no worry about dying, there is really no intensity there. There really isn’t any button mashing, however, to do a myriad of different moves only requires you go from holding A to holding B and vice versa.
As a player, it doesn’t feel like you are doing much. The fights are a little more interactive, however, there is no challenge there either. Just block until they stop hitting, then hit them back. As the title states, this is only my initial post on the game. I have played about 1 hour and 30 minutes into the game so far, so as I get deeper I really hope that the game becomes more challenging and more fun. Will post more as I get further.
