Caught this article from ZDNet in my RSS this morning. I’m pretty sure everyone has seen the Verizon “There’s a Map For That…” ad. For those that don’t know, shortly after that ad was released AT&T sued Verizon over it stating that it was misleading and wanted the court to make Verizon pull the ad.
According to the ZDNet article Verizon pretty much responded with a,”Q.Q U MAD?!?!?” Not really, but you get the point. No matter how you look at it, the Verizon ads are 100% truthful. Also, the ad clearly states that this is a 3G coverage comparison and does not mention regular cellular coverage at all. From a legal standpoint (or at least what I know of legality of these matters) there is no reason why the court should order Verizon to pull this ad. Verizon told the truth, and for AT&T the truth hurts.
I can also confirm the better coverage myself as I have just switched from AT&T to Verizon in order to obtain the Motorola Droid. While the cellular coverage in my area is only a bit better, I have noticed a major increase in speed and coverage over my data connection. My web apps fly, and my web browsing is MUCH faster than when I was on AT&T. It appears AT&T should have spent more on improving and expanding their infrastructure rather than subsidizing iPhones….
