Well this is a interesting turn of events.  I’m about 7 days late on this but I stumbled upon this post.  Turning off commenting completely?  This doesn’t seem like the answer to your problem to me.  When you reopen commenting the trolling and flaming will resume as normal…if not worse.  Based on the flame wars I have seen over at Engadget I can almost guarantee that this is a result of some bias Apple post from Engadget and the unavoidable arguments that come up between Apple fanboys and the rest of us.

Some are predicting that Engadget will lose tons of readers because of this.  I doubt that.  I do however think that they will be diminishing their community, which will hurt them in the long run.  Perhaps if they would stop posting SOOO many bias Apple stories and then stop trying to crush the comments of those who disagree they wouldn’t have this problem.  But then again, what do I know?  I’m just a blogger…that reads technology blogs and websites…and works in the industry.

  1. I haven’t been there since, the comments add a lot to the post. I can go to CNN if i just want straight tech news.
